Our Story
The Hyderabadi heritage and South Indian soul behind Dasaraa
The Meaning Behind the Name
If you have ever searched for Dasaara or Dasara, you are in the right place. Dasaraa is named after one of India's biggest festivals, the one that celebrates good winning over evil. Truth over shortcuts. We picked that name on purpose.
Opening this restaurant was never about convenience. It was about bringing truly authentic Hyderabadi and South Indian food to the families, students, and communities of New Jersey without compromising on a single ingredient or recipe. That is our victory of flavor.

A Story Born in Hyderabad
Dasaraa began with two brothers. We came to the United States, the way many young people from Hyderabad do, full of hope, and quietly bracing for the one thing nobody warns you about, the food.
We searched for Indian restaurants in New Jersey. Tried them all. But something was always missing. The slow-cooked richness of a real Hyderabadi curry. The smokiness from properly roasted whole spices. The morning ritual of an Irani Chai. That thick tea, slow simmered, with malty depth you can taste. As much a part of Hyderabad as the Charminar itself.
Real food that tastes like home. No substitute for that feeling, and the longer we went without it, the clearer it got. If we wanted it done right, we'd have to do it ourselves.

The Irani Chai Ritual
Irani Chai for us is sacred. Thick, creamy, soaked in history. It's not just tea. It's that pause before the day kicks in. A community moment. We bring that to everyone who walks through our doors.

Slow-Cooked Soul
Our kitchen respects the slow-cooked richness of a real Hyderabadi curry. No shortcuts, we won't do it. Authentic flavors take patience, hand-ground spices, and a commitment to tasting like actual home.
What “Authentic” Actually Means to Us
Every restaurant claims to be authentic. Here's what it actually means when we say it.
It means we import spices that cannot be substituted, the particular strains of dried chilies, the specific masala blends that give Hyderabadi cuisine and Telangana cooking its depth and character. It means we follow recipes exactly as passed down, not adapted versions designed to appeal to everyone and delight no one. It means our Irani Chai is brewed the Hyderabadi way. Slow, patient, and precise.
South Indian food in New Jersey often gets reduced to a narrow set of dishes. At Dasaraa, we cook what actually appears on dining tables in Hyderabad and Telangana. The full range, done with care, served with pride.
